Faith Andrulot, a licensed practical nurse at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital, was one of six national award recipients who received Excellence in Nursing Awards from Eric Shinseki, Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in an awards ceremony in Washington, DC on Tuesday, May 10.

Each year, VA medical centers determine local recipients for the VA Secretary's Excellence in Nursing Awards in four main categories - nursing assistant, practical nurse, registered nurse in a staff role and registered nurse in an expanded role. Local winners are considered for recognition at a network level. Finally, the network-level winners from the 21 veterans integrated service networks are nominated for the national awards. In past years, Truman VA has had two national winners and numerous network winners.

Andrulot, an employee at Truman VA since 1994, currently works on the red team in primary care. Her nomination for the award cited her demonstrated effectiveness in improving and delivering patient care, her teamwork, her demonstrated performance improvement through a personal development plan to improve job-related skills and the recognition from co-workers for her excellent performance in providing care to Veterans.
