Secure Messaging: Find out how Linda uses it.

Linda Benny logs onto her My HealtheVet account and describes how she uses Secure Messaging.

Linda Benny was one of Truman VA's first patients to use Secure Messaging. Secure Messaging, a feature in My HealtheVet, allows her to communicate electronically with her primary care team.

Linda Benny was one of Truman VA’s first patients to use Secure Messaging.  She lives 2 ½ hours away from the medical center and uses Secure Messaging to communicate with her primary care team.

"Sometimes you don't need an appointment just to let your team know a change in your health," says Linda.  Linda has used Secure Messaging six or seven times since Truman VA began implementation in December 2010.  She uses Secure Messaging to request medication renewals and also to provide her team updates on care received outside of VA.

Linda joins more than 380 other patients currently using Secure Messaging with their primary care team at Truman VA.  Currently, 35 primary care teams offer this feature to their patients.  All Truman VA patients will soon have the option to use this feature with their team.

Patients who wish to use Secure Messaging must first register at and complete In-Person Authentication.  Read more about signing up and find a list of participating teams.
