Meet Matt.

Matt Freeman joined the Air Force as an electronic technician in 2000 where he also served as computer administrator for his work group.  With an interest in computers, Matt used the GI Bill to get his Bachelor’s in Information Technology in 2009.  Six months ago, Matt joined Truman VA as a Telecommunications Specialist to lead our new Telehealth Program.  "Telehealth is a new VA initiative allowing Veterans to get their health care closer to home," says Matt.  "It's an exciting new program because eligible Veterans don’t have to travel quite so far to get certain health services." 

Matt uses My HealtheVet.

Like the Telehealth Program, My HealtheVet brings health care to the Veteran.  My HealtheVet is the VA’s online Personal Health Record (PHR).  Veterans can use the website to refill VA prescriptions, communicate with VA health care teams, view chemistry/hematology test results, see upcoming appointments, and more.  Matt says, “In the same way that Telehealth makes health care more convenient for Veterans during an appointment, I think My HealtheVet makes health care more convenient outside of an appointment.”  Matt joined more than one million Veterans using My HealtheVet to take charge of their health care needs.

To use all the features on My HealtheVet, follow these steps. 

  1. Register: Visit and select register today.  Enter your name as it appears on your Veterans ID Card. Be sure to check the boxes “VA Patient” and “Veteran.”
  2. Upgrade: Watch the short online video.  During your next visit, stop by your Primary Care Check-in or the Release of Information Office to sign the authentication form.  You will need to show your government-issued photo ID.
  3. Opt-in to use Secure Messaging: Once you have an upgraded account, you may log on and opt-in to use Secure Messaging.  You can then send non-urgent secure messages to your participating Truman VA clinics, departments and providers.
