Local Businesses Receive "Flag of Freedom" Awards
On Feb. 14, 10 mid-Missouri organizations, including Truman VA, received "Flag of Freedom" awards signed by the Governor of Missouri. The awards were in recognition of successful participation in the Show-Me Heroes initiative*, which helps connect Veterans with job opportunities in Missouri.
The other businesses recognized on Tuesday included:
- First Student
- Kelly Services
- MBS Textbook Exchange
- Mid America Brick
- Midway Electric
- OCCI Engineering Contractors
- Reality House Programs
- University of Missouri Health Care
- Veterans United Home Loans
The program was established in January 2010 and is coordinated by the Missouri National Guard and Missouri Workforce Development. Since then, more than 1,700 employers have taken the pledge and more than 1,300 Veterans have been hired. The "Flag of Freedom" award is given in recognition of the organization’s efforts in reaching out to and employing Veterans and members of the National Guard and Reserve.
Veterans can find Truman VA Career information online. Since January 2010, we have hired 105 Veterans at Truman VA. We encourage other businesses to join us in the pledge to hire heroes.
