Did you know that Truman VA has implemented a new program to improve access to behavioral health services and improve overall health? Veterans may now receive care from a Primary Care Mental Health Integration provider in primary care.

So, why would I need to see a mental health provider in primary care? If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms or conditions, you may receive help from a Primary Care Mental Health Integration staff member to help you better cope:
                      • Anxiety
                      • Stress
                      • Headaches
                      • Family/relationship problems
                      • Bereavement
                      • Anger
                      • Diabetes
                      • Asthma
                      • Chronic pain
                      • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
                      • Diabetes
                      • High blood pressure

The Primary Care Mental Health Integration program is a national initiative to integrate care for physical and mental health concerns within primary care. Two psychologists are located within primary care for onsite assistance and the care coordinator, a registered nurse, provides onsite and telephone care management services. Veterans can access services through their primary care clinic. The mental health providers are available through referral from a Veteran’s primary care provider, by appointment or walk-in. Contact any primary care clinic for more information.
