Behavioral Health Triage

Behavioral Health (BH) Triage helps facilitate Veteran access to appropriate BH services.  Whether a Veteran is looking to seek care for the first time or a Veteran with established BH care is in need of more immediate services, BH Triage staff is focused on helping all Veterans meet their psychosocial needs.

BH services are designed to help Veterans make important changes that improve the overall quality of their lives.  Through counseling (individual, group and vocational) and psychiatric (medication management) care, Veterans can receive the support they need to either regain or enhance function across life roles.

All Veterans who receive VA care can receive BH Services.  Moreover, several Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) have been established across mid-Missouri to facilitate access to BH care.

Path to Care for New Patients:

Veterans looking to establish BH care for the first time must receive an initial and comprehensive assessment that helps Triage staff work with each Veteran to determine appropriate treatment recommendations.  Veterans can receive this assessment through one of two ways:

  • Walk-in Clinic:  Veterans interested in establishing BH care can take advantage of our walk-in clinic anytime between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.  The walk-in clinic is located on the 2nd floor, just to the right of the main bank of elevators. A brief wait time can be anticipated.  Each Veteran using the walk-in clinic to establish care will be asked to complete a brief intake packet that will allow Triage staff to efficiently assess the Veteran's needs. The aim of the walk-in clinic is to provide appropriate care for any Veteran desiring BH services, new or established.  Such care may include initial enrollment into services, medication management and crisis management.
  • Schedule a Future Appointment:  Veterans can contact BH to schedule an initial Triage assessment by calling (573) 814-6486.  The date of the scheduled appointment will be within 14 days.

For Established Patients:

Veterans who already have an assigned BH provider and are in crisis or looking to get scheduled with other immediate BH services, including medication and/or counseling, can also utilize BH Triage services.  Simply contact Triage by phone (573-814-6486) or present to our walk-in clinic anytime between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday-Friday for assistance.
